Manchester United's Raphael Varane missed a 2-1 comeback victory over Brentford in the Premier League due to a minor issue. Varane returned to the United side as a substitute at Burnley two weeks ago and had started each of United's last three games in all competitions.
He was not in the squad for the match against the Bees, the final game for a fortnight due to the October international break. Erik ten Hag explained that Varane had a minor issue and that if it was two or three days longer between matches, he could have made it.
Centre-backs Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire were promoted into the XI, with Hannibal dropping to the bench. Victor Lindelof played at left-back, and Ten Hag did not have any recognized defenders on the bench amid the injury crisis at the back.
