The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday conducted a mock voter accreditation exercise for the forthcoming governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states.
The exercise was held in selected polling units in the three states, and it was aimed at testing the functionality of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines that will be used for the elections.
The BVAS machines are a new technology that INEC is introducing for the first time in the governorship elections. The machines are designed to authenticate voters using their fingerprints and facial recognition.
The mock voter accreditation exercise was generally successful, although there were some reports of technical glitches with some of the BVAS machines. However, INEC said that the glitches were minor and that they would be fixed before the elections.
The Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi governorship elections will be held on November 11, 2023.
