Yakubu Mahmood’s INEC is An Epic Disgrace- Chidoka

Osita Chidoka, a former minister of aviation and leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for not being able to send poll results electronically in real-time during the general elections in 2023.

Chidoka said on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Sunday that despite the promises made for the governorship elections in Anambra, Ekiti, and Osun, the commission failed ‘on a big scale.’

He said, “INEC is a huge shame. As a Nigerian, I am ashamed to be associated with this group. When they conducted elections in Anambra, Ekiti, and Osun, they made vows.

“Before the elections, I asked for the INEC system to be checked by a third party so that we could be sure that nothing would go wrong on election day. On the day of the election, INEC said there was a problem.

“It’s a shame that INEC went to court to argue that not following its rules is not a reason to cancel an election, even though it didn’t test the system.”

He also said that there would be no reason for the parties to go to court if INEC had sent the results in real-time.

“We wouldn’t be in court if the results we saw at the voting unit were the same as what we saw at the collation centers.

Chidoka said that if “the right thing” had been done, it’s possible that President Tinubu would have won the race.
