UNILAG Reduces New Fees Following Meeting with Student Leaders

0

In a bid to address the ongoing crisis over tuition fees, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has announced a reduction in various mandatory charges. This development follows a meeting between the university’s management, led by Vice Chancellor Folasade Ogunsola, and student leaders on Thursday.

Usman Barambu, President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led the student delegation in discussions aimed at resolving the lingering fee-related issues.

As a result of the negotiations, UNILAG has revised the compulsory fees for new undergraduate students. For courses without laboratory or studio components, these fees have been reduced from N126,325 to N116,325. Similarly, for courses that include lab or studio facilities, the obligatory fees have been adjusted from N176,325 to N166,325.

Returning undergraduate students have also benefited from the fee reduction. Those pursuing courses without lab or studio components will now pay N80,750 instead of the previous N100,750. Students enrolled in courses with lab or studio components will see their fees decrease from N140,250 to N120,250. Medical and pharmacy students and those studying health professions have had their fees reduced from N190,250 to N170,250.

This decision to reduce fees is expected to alleviate the financial burden on students and help foster a more conducive learning environment at UNILAG.
