Anambra State Police Command officers shot at the fleeing kidnappers at Umuota Village, Obosi, in the Idemili North Local Government Area of the state and freed a person who had been taken.
The victim, who was just called Abuchi and was from Orumba South LGA in Anambra State, was said to have been stolen on Saturday night. The police were able to find him after people in the area called them.
Residents of Obosi stopped the police officers at around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and informed them that there had been a kidnapping, according to DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, a spokeswoman for the state police, in a press release on Sunday. This happened while the officers were on a crime patrol in the area.
He said, “The kind-hearted people told the cops where the kidnappers had gone after taking their victim.
“The police then followed the kidnappers to an unfinished building in Umuota Village, Obosi, that was surrounded by bushes. There, they got into a gunfight with the kidnappers.”
“One of the bad guys was shot and taken into custody, but the rest got away, some of them with bullet wounds. The gang was found with a double-barrel gun, two live cartridges, and one empty one.
“The man who was caught said his name was Nwasu Ikenna and that he was from Obosi. He said that Ebuka, also known as “Big,” Chinedu Emmanuel, and Chukwu Ojoto were the ones who got away.
“The bad guy who said that Ebuka was the leader of the gang died on his way to the hospital to get help.”
He said that the state’s police chief, CP Aderemi Adeoye, who praised the team for its bravery, has ordered that the suspects who are still at large be labeled “wanted” and searched for.
Ikenga added, “The CP assured the people of Obosi and Anambra State that the Police Command will not stop fighting crime until it has been reduced to a bare minimum.”
