The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State has called the decision of the Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC) and other similar decisions by state election courts a violation of democracy.
Senator Ibrahim Umar Tsauri, who used to be the party’s national secretary and is now the head of the Atiku/Lado campaign team, said this yesterday at a press conference held at the party’s headquarters.
He said, “We have the right to say that the PEPC’s decision was far from fair. We would say that what the PEPC did to Nigeria, Nigerians, and the political process is exactly what INEC did during the elections.
He said that Prof. Yakubu Mammud, the head of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), told Nigerians that the BVAS machines would be used to make sure the elections were exact, free, fair, and credible.
He said that the party trusted the head of INEC and stopped worrying about him because they thought he was an honest person. However, they did the opposite and tricked Nigeria.
The former secretary also said that the PEPC told Nigerians that tribunals would not make decisions based on technicalities. However, in the end, tribunals made decisions based not only on technicalities but also on what was in everyone’s best interest.
“We call that decision a robbery of democracy because it sets a bad example that can’t and won’t be followed.
“When it came to the Katsina State Tribunal, the same trends and plans were in place. “Everyone in Katsina State who had a brain knew how the election on February 25, 2023, was run,” he said.
Recently, a court in Katsina kicked out two members of the House of Representatives and ruled that the PDP didn’t win two other places.
