After two weeks of football, the top five teams feel solid.

The second half of the top ten is quite a bit shakier. Those teams have plenty to prove over the next several weeks and could be supplanted by any of the teams below them.

I may be underestimating the Marist/Brother Rice/Glenbard West group. Time will tell.

Commentary:


  • Mount Carmel and Lincoln-Way East remain the top two teams in the state. The Caravan will face a tough test on the road against Notre Dame on Friday.
  • Marist makes its first appearance in the rankings after a convincing win over Benet. The RedHawks will face a tough test on the road against Lincoln-Way West on Friday.
  • Batavia drops to third after a loss to Lincoln-Way East. The Bulldogs will look to rebound against Lake Park on Friday.
  • St. Rita and Joliet Catholic both remain in the top 10. The Mustangs will face a tough test on the road against Brother Rice on Friday. The Hilltoppers will face a tough test on the road against Providence on Friday.
  • Libertyville makes its first appearance in the rankings after a convincing win over Carmel. The Wildcats will face a tough test on the road against Wheaton-Warrenville South on Friday.
  • Kankakee moves up to ninth after a win over Plainfield South. The Kays will face a tough test on the road against Thornridge on Friday.
  • Maine South and Naperville North both remain in the top 10. The Hawks will face a tough test at home against Palatine on Friday. The Huskies will face a tough test on the road against Bolingbrook on Friday.




Oswego and Fenwick just missed the cut this week.


The rankings will be updated after all games are played on Friday night.
